https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=678653 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=678653#c4 --- Comment #4 from Jan Engelhardt <jengelh@medozas.de> 2011-03-15 11:05:27 UTC --- The mingetty manpage says nothing of UTF-8 support. So this feature is practically not advertised. Also see http://bugs.debian.org/mingetty while at it. And the most important reason I could think of why nobody except openSUSE uses mingetty would be what is actually stated in its manpage: "mingetty does not support serial lines". Heck, even openSUSE uses agetty in sysvinit for ttyS0 because of that. And, I suppose, few people like to carry around more than one getty implementation. What other features does agetty lack? A clear comparative table would be of use. What is the state of the mingetty project at SF, is it even authoritative, or does openSUSE run sort a fork? (Because mingetty.sf release seems to not receive much attention.) All these questions would come to my mind if I were a bystander having to decide on agetty vs mingetty. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
