According to hwinfo my testlaptop is a Desktop (0x03), so there was no Networkmanager working after installation. But there was also no network after pluging the ethernet cable, only after rcnetwork restart. So there seems to be no hotplug with traditional ifup. Networkmanager should be the default for _all_ machines. Let's not even try to make it depend on some existing hardware. Think about users installing a desktop machine with ethernet and later buying a WiFi-Card or USB-dongle. WiFi will not work for them without Networkmanger. And be honest: who want's to set up a Wifi connection within YaST??? Would you do? No, so why should OpenSuse users do so? Someone who does not want to user Networkmanager is a power user and knows how to setup the network connection manually/traditionally. For all other users it's just very hard to find out, why the network is not working. Networkmanager works very stable an at least for Ethernet I didn't had any problems within the last 2 years or so. So please make it the default for 11.4+ and to keep it simple let's be the default for every machine. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
