https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=207006 Summary: Zen Updater not warning of reboot requirement for kernel updates Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Zenworks AssignedTo: zlm-code10-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: steveba@eircom.net QAContact: jtariq@novell.com While YOU warns the user that a reboot is required to complete a kernel update, Zen Updater does not. On 17-Sep-2006, Zen Updater updated my kernel from 2.6.16.21-0.13-default to 2.6.16.21-0.21-default. At no time did I receive a "you must reboot to complete the kernel update" message. Following on from a discussion in the alt.os.linux.suse news group "Kernel Update recoveries ?" (http://groups.google.com/group/alt.os.linux.suse/browse_thread/thread/81136a...) I responded and suggested: Perhaps Zen Update could do with an optional "display reboot required messages" on it's Configure screen? In fact, I would go one further and allow for customised messages to be added, such as "after the reboot, don't forget to re-install your nvidia/ati video drivers in run level 3, run sax2, etc." I received a response that I should enter a buzilla entry here - so here I am ! Would you please consider my suggestion as a possible future enhancement to Zen Updater? Could I also add that perhaps for remote management support, an optional email, snmp trap, etc., could be sent informing the administrator(s) that a kernel [or any other important] update has been performed and that a reboot is now required?
