On a fresh install the /usr/bin/latex etc links are not installed, on a version change from 64->32bit they are left pointing to x86_64-linux. My solution was to, from fresh, (a) install texlive-bin-latex 64bit then (b) revert to 32bit then replace /usr/lib/texmf/bin/x86_64-linux with a symbolic link to /usr/lib/texmf/bin/i586-linux Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: The summary is quite precise, basically the texlive packages are a bit broken under these circumstances.
