The message is: "GNU GRUB version 0.97 (640k lower / 3072K upper memory) [ Minimal BASH-like line editing ... <snip> ... of a device/filename. ] grub> setup --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 (hd0,0) (hd0,0) Error 17: Cannot mount selected partition grub> quit"<<< My system: - Motherboard ASUS P5BP-E/4L - CPU Intel Core Quad 6600 - RAM 2x2GB ECC - Raid controller 3Ware 9650SE-8LPML PCIe 4x - Harddisks 8x 1TB Seagate 7200.11, bundled to a 8TB-RAID6 array - Partitions: a. sda 5,4 TB (net) RAID6 b. sda1 /boot Ext3 100 MB c. sda2 /swap swap 8 GB d. sda3 / Ext3 10 GB e. sda4 /var Ext3 2 GB f. sda5 /files XFS 5,44 TB as you see, there is no extended partition, but they are all primaries.. Thus, instead of MBR a GPT partition table is installed. I assume that the bug lays in the GPT area..
