https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=791106 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=791106#c0 Summary: NTP writes UTC time even though hardware clock is local time Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ftake@geeko.jp QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) Presto/2.12.388 Version/12.11 /etc/init.d/ntp passes "--utc" to the hwclock command and writes wrong time to hardware clock even though the value of hardware clock is local time. This parameter was added when bnc#774553 was fixed. The hwclock command can determine --utc or --localtime from /etc/adjtime but I do not know why --noadjfile, which prevents this, is needed on the script. Workaround: Set NTPD_FORCE_SYNC_ON_STARTUP to "no" if hardware clock is local.
