In my openSUSE installation and when I install openSUSE from the installation CD, the directory /var/run **is not** a symlink to /run Otherwise, when I installed from LiveCD, the /var/run is indeed a symlink to /run I needed to reboot in maintenance mode, unmount /var/run, remove it, symlink to /run After a reboot, everything started to work again.
