https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=803201 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=803201#c0 Summary: Can't change software update preferences Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mike.catanzaro@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:18.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/18.0 Background info: in GNOME there has been a campaign to remove all desktop launchers that aren't real applications. So while in GNOME 3.4 the "Software Settings" and "Software Update" launchers are shown by default, in GNOME 3.6 these are hidden by default. This is good for upstream because these tools are now accessed through the "Software Install" program (gnome-packagekit) and the launchers are therefore redundant. But since we don't use gnome-packagekit, our needs are different. In particular, the only way to get to "Software Settings" in 12.3 is via the command line, so there's no way to set how frequently to check for updates, what to automatically install, whether to download updates on mobile broadband, etc. We should therefore make the "Software Settings" launcher visible in openSUSE. As for "Software Update"... in RC1 you can get to this from the Details pane in System Settings. (That was impossible in Beta 1 since our PackageKit was too old.) Nevertheless that's somewhat out of the way, and we may want to show this launcher by default as well.
