Well, I agree that my original problem is fixed in a technical sense, I do not think that the bug is ready to be closed. The problem must also be addressed from a users perspective.
There are currently no hints within any software (audacity, kde mixer, amixer, alsamixer) that "Smart 5.1" conflicts with "recording". There should be - a clear warning about the conflict
How? On GUI?
Well those applications opening an ALSA recording device should get an appropriate error code back and translate it to a user-friendly error message.
- a checkbox to enable/disable 5.1
It's a mixer program problem. amixer / alsamixer provides it.
Huh ? Both mixers happily allowed me to configure "mic" channels without any warning signs.
- enabled 5.1 must disable any capture/mic settings
Should it return an error?
Setting capture devices (alsamixer -> F4 -> Space) should warn if 5.1 is enabled. Enabling 5.1 should warn if capture devices are defined. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
