Here's why. Computer 1 - I have been running SUSE 10.2 for several months. I decided to add a small FAT16 partition for MSDSOS. I used the MSDSOS fdisk utility to delete all partitions and create the FAT16. I formatted under MSDOS, and was able to boot into it. Then I started the 10.2 install and got the above error. I tried all the suggested fixes. I even used "dd" to write zeros over the first few hundred sectors. I successfully installed WinXP and it ran flawlessly. I even tried the XP FIXMBR from the recovery console. I too thought it was a hardware problem. To verify it I slipped the drive into... Computer 2 (different maker different controller) - Same exact problem with installing 10.2. Must be the drive I thought. Then I tried installing SUSE 9.3 on this computer and it worked just fine. Aha! I thought, I must have cleared the problem. No. When I tried 10.2 it errored out again. The only common element on the failures was the 10.2 installation software. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
