https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=289105 Summary: Grub-installation to an usb-stick failed Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 5 Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: michael.eschweiler@t-online.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- For testing purposes I had to install oss 10.3 Alpha 5 (see bug # 230668 - s2disk) on my Acer Travelmate 661. As I didn't want to corrupt my working installation I thought it would be a good idea to install grub on an USB-stick. During the installation the setup told me that it was unable to install grub on the stick - permission denied. So I changed to a console and looked for the stick. I found it mounted, but as read-only. So I unmounted it and mounted it once more to the same mount-point but with write permissions. Then I changed back to the installation and clicked the retry-option but without luck. The setup told me once more that it was unable to write grub to the stick. While doing the unmount - mount casually I did an 'ls' on the mounted stick and found all necessary files (config-2.6.22..., initrd-2.6.22..., vmlinuz-2.6.22 .. etc.) but lacking the grub-part. Thanks to Stefan Seyfried (mail from 18.06.07 at opensuse-de@opensuse.org) I could finish the installation and complete the existing grub installation with the data found on the stick). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
