But then you also say copying from the NFS share to the notebook which sounds like server to client. Could you please clarify exactly where that data is going from and to, and what sort of speeds in each direction. i.e. are both directions slow, or only one. Also, do you know which kernel you were using with Debian/Etch? It might help to see "ifconfig -a" and "cat /proc/interrupts".
