http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=610944 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=610944#c0 Summary: The word 'disable' should be removed from descriptions of security settings Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Milestone 7 Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: arpad.biro@edf.hu QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=366403) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=366403) screenshot User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US) AppleWebKit/533.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/5.0.375.55 Safari/533.4 There are 6 security settings in YaST/Local Security/Security Overview which contain the word 'disable' in their descriptions: "Disable remote root login in the display manager" "Disable remote access to the X server" "Disable service restart on update" "Disable service stop on removal" "Disable IPv4 forwarding" "Disable IPv6 forwarding" These settings are either "Enabled" or "Disabled" as shown in the Status column. Using the word "Disable" in the descriptions causes confusion to the user, because e.g. when DISPLAYMANAGER_ROOT_LOGIN_REMOTE="yes", then this Status shows "Disable remote root login in the display manager" = "Enabled". The user may think that _disabling_ is enabled, which would mean that remote root login is disabled. The reverse case: when DISPLAYMANAGER_ROOT_LOGIN_REMOTE="no", then YaST says "Disable remote root login in the display manager" = "Disabled". This could mean to the user that disabling is disabled, thus the whole thing is enabled. To sum up, I would recommend not to use "disable" or other negative words in the above mentioned descriptions. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. start YaST 2. choose "Security and Users", then "Local Security" -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
