https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=747968 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=747968#c0 Summary: [Intel 865] lost keyboard & black screen at GUI startup unless nomodeset passed to kernel Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Factory Platform: x86 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mrmazda@earthlink.net QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=476996) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=476996) y2logs I couldn't find any existing bug, relnote or installation instruction specifically about this, only the reference to a possibility nomodeset might be necessary post-installation. I tried HTTP install using a Grub stanza similar to: title Install SuSE 12.2 snapshot kernel (hd0,2)/suse122/linux showopts install=http://download.opensuse.org/factory-snapshot/repo/oss/ lang=en keytable=us hostname=myhost hostip=192.168.1.2/24 gateway=192.168.1.1 nameserver=192.168.1.1 namescheme=by-label kexec_reboot=0 ipv4only=1 noresume video=1152x864 vga=0x318 3 initrd (hd0,2)/suse122/initrd on two different i865 Dell Optiplex machines with same result, both with 12.2M1 and 12.1 on the second machine. IIRC with 12.1M3 or so on one of same two machines this did not happen. It also does not happen on my i845 or i915 Optiplex machines. The only way I found to avoid keyboard lockup/black screen at GUI startup time on the i865 is to append nomodeset to the Grub kernel line. Without it, only the power switch was able to make the machine usable again. nomodeset is not required post-installation using installed kernel-desktop 3.2. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
