Due to second loopback present, a lot of network software is broken.
Of course. See other people complaining about the very same issue: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=207392 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=355608 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=570108 Assigning FQDN to localhost IP is openSUSE product-default. It is a workaround for buggy (desktop) applications: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=304632 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=383336 It has been already requested not to append 127.0.0.2 line to hosts at all, see openFATE feature: https://features.opensuse.org/308824 for more technical details. Please vote for it (tell your friends to vote, too), if you want to have anything changed. Unfortunately, the feature becomes effective in openSUSE 11.3 at the soonest (if at all). For openSUSE 11.2 and older, in order not to end up with 127.0.0.2 in hosts please do the following: * Opt out of automatic configuration (uncheck "Use automatic configuration" box in installation mode screen) * In 2nd stage of installation, after reboot in hostname selection screen, opt out of writing hostname to /etc/hosts (uncheck "Write hostname to /etc/hosts")
Main reason is that gethostbyname() returns two IPv4 addresses for the hostname (therefore the software cannot determine a single IP for connection > and ends with error)
Have that software fixed. I can't but close this as a feature, there is hardly any way how to fix this (in the installation or YaST code) in openSUSE 11.2. All in all, there is the above mentioned workaround. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
