After reading all answers and especially the bug reports at Mozilla I became aware that a) many errors are not reproducible and b) seem to appear only at very special occasions. So I went on and: - deleted all AddOns - cleaned and compacted accounts - uninstalled previous TB - cleaned remains of extensions, calendars, … in ~/.thunderbird/default/ - installed MozillaThunderbird-68.8.1-1.2.x86_64 - added the extensions (AddOns) - recreated calendars and address books and voilà, I'm back in business. It is somewhat disappointing to loose one and a half day, but at least it is working again. Seems some dependencies are really wicked.
