https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=403904 Summary: keyboard continuously generates zeroes (nulls) (00000000000) Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: lukash33@yandex.ru QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Other After initial boot up my newly installed system is unusable because its keyboard starts typing nulls ('0') continuously. One could not type username nor password because of NULLS typed alogn with normal characters continuously as the '0' key is stuck! For example how 'root' is typed: r00000000000000o0000000000o000000000t0000000000 It is hard to catch the moment when nulls start typing during the boot process. Somewhere when 'Configuring devices' or 'Configuring udev' I think. Somewhere when the init.d scripts start to run some additionally '0000000000' seen at the screen. I noticed pressing SHIFT keys when ZEROes are typed spontaneously, modifies zeroes accordingly, making ')' chars instead. Typing '0' simply adds nulls and nothing else. My hardware is a PC with M52S-53P motherboard, x86 Family AMD 2511Mhz 64bit processor and 2gb of RAM. The OpenSUSE 11.0 DVD distributive used passed checksums and could be installed and used successfully on another machines. Only my home computer could not be used by OpenSUSE 11.0 I am sure my keyboard is OK and its '0' key is OK too. Only OpenSUSE 11.0 system could not be run on my hardware in no way. Other systems run OK. The followind configurations DO cause the bug in a VERY stable way: 1. 64bit OpenSUSE 11.0 fresh install 2. 32bit OpenSUSE 11.0 fresh install 3. SafeMode of [1,2] from above 4. XEN kernels of [1,2] 5. Runlevels 1-5 of [1,2] from above 6. XWindow system (runlevel 5) 7. Tried distinct PS/2 or USB keyboards!! 8. Even tried different set of installed packages (even the minimal text one) 9. Tried English or Russian languages during install 10. Changing virtual screens does not help no way. Meanwhile the followind systems DO NOT cause the bug in any way: 1. OpenSUSE 11.0 resque mode from DVD 2. Windows XP 32bit 3. Windows 2000 4. Fedora Linux 5. some Knoppixes 6. OpenSUSE 10.3 7. 23bit SUSE 11.0 under SUNs VirtualBox under WindowsXP I think this could be a kernel bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
