https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=780716 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=780716#c0 Summary: GPU acceleration does not work with Radeon HD 6450 on 64 bit system, resulting in very poor performance Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dieter.leinweber@d-leinweber.de QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/22.0.1226.0 Safari/537.4 SUSE/22.0.1226.0 The GPU acceleration with a Radeon HD 6450 based video card fails on a 64 bit system. This happens on my fresh installed box and with the 64 bit live DVD. As a result some programs (e.g. xawtv) are not working and others (e.g. vlc) are awefully slow. The 32 bit live DVD on the other hand seems to work without problems. The first trace of the problem seems to be the line: [drm:r600_ring_test] *ERROR* radeon: ring 0 test failed (scratch(0x8500)=0xCAFEDEAD) in the 64 bit output of demsg. All other entries (like "radeon 0000:01:00.0: disabling GPU acceleration") seems to be a result of that initial error. As a conclusion, it seems that the video card itself is supported by the available driver, but it seems that something is wrong/missing in the current 64 bit diver/kernel. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start the 32 bit live DVD 2. Start the 64 bit live DVD 3. Compare the output of dmesg, xvinfo, Xorg.0.log, etc. Actual Results: - Very slow video performance (usable only with very small video resolutions, e.g. 320x200), including high CPU usage - Some programs are not working (e.g. xawtv) Expected Results: - normal video performance - all programs should work (e.g. xawtv) I've tried to use the 64 bit catalyst driver (12.8) instead. The installation was successful, but after the restart the system hangs.
