https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=803520 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=803520#c0 Summary: ATi Radeon HD4290 only works with 'fbdev' driver, not 'vesa' or 'radeon' Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: me@kalenz.eu QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: Community User Blocker: --- Upgrade approach: downloaded DVD ISO image and used this ISO file as a repository, removed all other repositories, then 'init 3' >> 'zypper dup'. Hardware: Athlon II X2 250 (x86_64); Asus M4A89GTD; onboard Radeon HD4290; Samsung SyncMaster B2230 (1920x1080 LCD) on VGA port. This was previously running happily on 12.2 (x86-64) with the 'radeon' driver. After booting into 12.3, regardless of choice of kernel (excluding failsafe mode), the screen goes black. Booting into failsafe mode works ok, with the fbdev driver. Tried adding "nomodeset" to the kernel line --> no effect. Tried tinkering with xorg.conf.d / xorg.conf.install --> works ok with 'fbdev' driver selected, crashes with 'vesa' (black screen+freeze at X11 start), and fails with 'radeon' (terminates with "no screens found"). Adding a modeline (from 'cvt -v 1920 1080') does not help. Tried 'Xorg -configure" --> terminates on "Fatal: number of screens does not match number of monitors" (or something like that) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
