http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=547703 Summary: how to enter expert/advanced partitioning mode is unnecessarily obscure Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Factory Platform: x86 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mrmazda@earthlink.net QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- The first screen of partitioning provides a suggested partitioning plan, below which are: < > partition based < > LVM based [create partition setup] [edit partition setup] I find the meaning of these two sets of selections too obtuse. Probably the first two choices would make sense if they stood alone. The meaning of the two latter aren't perfectly clear unless first opening Help to discover their meaning. There's a big mass of whitespace on this screen, so I suggest replacing the two buttons in the middle lower of the screen with another checklist, with the following mutually exclusive options: __accept suggestion as is __guided modification of suggested partitioning __use existing partitions only __advanced/expert mode The first two would function as do now "edit partition setup" or "next", though I think maybe dispensing with the second might do as well or better. The third would not permit any partitioning, but merely accept mount points and options and select which if any partitions to format. Mandriva has this now via a cmdline argument to the installer "readonly=1". The last would perform as does now "create partition setup", while not being obtuse about how to abandon all vestiges of the suggested partitioning. It's probably too far along in 11.2 dev cycle to make this big of a change, but if it is, I think it would help to immediately swap position of the two buttons, and change from "edit partition setup" to "edit suggested partitioning" or "edit suggested setup". Popup bubble explanations on hovering the two buttons would also help. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
