https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=685068 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=685068#c0 Summary: Asrock 870 Extreme Mainboard: Freezes when HPET enabled Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bugzilla@go4more.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de-DE) AppleWebKit/533.3 (KHTML, like Gecko) rekonq Safari/533.3 I don't know if there is a way to handle this in the openSUSE or if it should be dealt with in the upstream kernel: Like obviously many other mainboards, the Asrock 870 Extreme mainboard has problems when the HPET-timer is enabled (logfiles spammed with "CE: hpet increasing min_delta_ns to ..." messages). For the user this is visible in frequent shorter and longer complete freezes, IMHO especially during I/O activities. Using the "hpet=disable" kernel option or turning HPET off in the BIOS seems to solve the problem for me. I don't know if there is some blacklist or something where this mainboard should be listed. The problem occurs both with the 11.4 stock kernel and the current Tumbleweed-kernel (2.6.38-18, desktop flavor). The mainboard BIOS is current. I also use the proprietary AMD/ATI-driver.
