From the comment of bgo#660755[*]:
http://www.mjmwired.net/kernel/Documentation/ABI/stable/sysfs-class-backligh... The kernel ABI suggests that firmware control should be preferred to platform control. It seems that g-s-d used "samsung" instead of "acpi_video0". There are basically two bugs: 1. Wrong device: The priority of samsung is lower than acpi_video0 in the g-s-d backlight helper, so I think that gnome-rr chose the wrong device. 2. Bad backlight handling in samsung_laptop The "samsung" device is created by the kernel driver: "samsung_laptop", and it didn't set the correct brightness to the LCD panel. I'll dig gnome-rr and see what I can do. We should also file a bug against samsung_laptop.
