https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=414447 Summary: apparent "minimum acceptable password length" bug Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: newaccelerator@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Hi, In case it helps you, I (currently) own a Dell Dimension B110 PC. Whoa!! 1) Open YaST (YaST Control Center). 2) Click on "Security and Users" (which is to the left of the YaST Control Center display). 3) Click on "Local Security" (which is to the right of the YaST Control Center display). This action opens the "Local Security Configuration" dialog box(es). In the "Security Settings" area, "Custom Settings" should be chosen--leave this setting alone. 4) Click on the "Next" button. By default, the minimum acceptable password length is 5. If one changes this length to anything other than 5, the new setting will appear to not take effect; i.e., when one changes the minimum acceptable password length, then clicks the "Next" button, then clicks the next "Next" button, then clicks the next "Next" button, then clicks the next "Next" button, then clicks the "Finish" button, it will appear that the new minimum password length is zero when one reopens the "Local Security Configuration" dialog boxes! Apparently, the new minimum acceptable password length is indeed zero. Obviously, I don't know if this applies to every new password length value. It has applied to every value that I've tested (other than the default value, 5). Every time that I've reset the minimum acceptable password length to 5, the minimum acceptable password length has indeed been 5. 5) I've discovered that I can create a one-character password when the minimum acceptable password length value is zero! I have not been able to create a password with zero (i.e., no) characters, though. It appears to me that this is a very serious problem. Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.
