https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=284995 Summary: Excessive memory usage when parsing metadata Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 5 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: libzypp AssignedTo: kkaempf@novell.com ReportedBy: jarve79@hotmail.com QAContact: kkaempf@novell.com Found By: --- A fresh install of openSUSE 10.3 Alpha5 grinds to a halt when using zypper or YaST. Specifically, at the point of parsing metadata for repository http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source/suse/ zypper will eat all my RAM and a lot of swap (~800MB used in total!), hence bringing the operation to a crawl due to swapping. This last step can then take over 8 minutes to complete and is extremely annoying as it is unavoidable for any search or install function using YaST or zypper even when you have refresh sources set to off. I note that 'yum' does not exhibit this behavior. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
