I don't know it's the same bug, but my desktops hangs if right click on my notes desktop app and click on "Insert unicode control character" and m The same menu in kmail compose window works fine.

You would be able to see this by looking at your logfile /var/log/Xorg.0.log{,.old}: [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.
