That "Searching for boot device" is from the kiwi-generated initrd. So something is wrong in there. I wonder why I can't see that? I was using 'xencons=tty' and the last message I saw before the pause was the 'st: Version' one. I would have instantly realized what was going on if I had. Trying again just now, I still don't see it -- very odd.
