https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231083 jsmeix@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution| |INVALID ------- Comment #1 from jsmeix@novell.com 2007-01-02 03:48 MST ------- When you select the Epson EPL 6200L is listed in YaST, you get this information message: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This printer is not supported by openSUSE. Find information regarding supported and unsupported printers in your product documentation. If the printer can be switched to support a standard printer language (PostScript, PCL, or ESC/P), it can be configured as that type of printer. Ask the vendor of the printer whether this model understands a standard printer language directly (not through a driver emulation) and how to switch the printer into the standard printer language mode, for example, using an additional PostScript module. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why do you think it is a major bug in openSUSE when we don't provide any existing GDI printer driver? It is no "major" bug because it is no bug at all. It is even no enhancement request because the epl6200l driver in the epsoneplijs driver software package has license issues as described it its README file: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The ijs-derived part follows the same licence as ijs. The rest of the code is under the GNU public license, except "epl_compress.c". .. The content of "epl_compress.c" may have issues with Epson which we are not yet sure about. Therefore we hereby explicitly ask whoever uses the content of that file, NOT to use it for any purpose other than in relation to the Epson EPL series of printers. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- If we distributed this driver we could not make sure that it is not used for any purpose other than in relation to the Epson EPL series of printers. Therefore we cannot distribute such a driver. See our documentation, e.g. in the package opensuse-manual_en /usr/share/doc/manual/opensuse-manual_en/manual/cha.p.html /usr/share/doc/manual/opensuse-manual_en/manual/sec.drucken.prob.html "Printers without Standard Printer Language Support" or in our support database http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Purchasing_a_Printer_and_Compatibility and http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:GDI_Printers in particular note this section --------------------------------------------------------------------------- We will never risk causing license problems only to have some kind of support for such problematic hardware. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
