Using \usepackage[charter]{mathdesign} or \usepackage[fraktur,mdbch]{mathdesign} in the document preamble gives some errors, but doesn't produce a pdf: ###### [7] (./mdbchtest.aux) ) (see the transcript file for additional information){/usr/share/texmf/fonts/enc /dvips/cm-super/cm-super-t1.enc} !pdfTeX error: /usr/bin/pdflatex (file texnansi.enc): cannot open encoding file for reading ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced! ###### Minimal example: ###### \documentclass[a4paper,10pt]{scrartcl} \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc} \usepackage[charter]{mathdesign} \begin{document} \section{Test} Some Text with some Math: $a^2 + b^2 = c^2$ \end{document} ###### Using just \usepackage{charter} works just fine, but in this case the corresponding math font is not used.
