http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=549040 Summary: If KDE is the default desktop, Gnome has no audio. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: james@bear454.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090909 SUSE/3.5.3-3.2 Firefox/3.5.3 I selected KDE as my default desktop, but installed the Gnome desktop pattern as well. The audio server was setup by default to not use pulseaudio (I assume because of the KDE default, phonon), but as a result I get *no audio* in Gnome. No volume control on the task bar, and the Sound control panel applet only pops up a dialog saying "Waiting for sound system to respond" - never any action. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Select KDE as default desktop 2. In software selection, install the Gnome desktop pattern also 3. Observe that the audio configuration does not include pulseaudio by default. Actual Results: No audio in gnome apps. Non-gnome apps (VLC plays fine, for example) are able use use ALSA, etc. without error, but there is no desktop volume control. Expected Results: Audio in Gnome.
