https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=465660 Summary: Certain ATI video cards often cause fatal black screens during screen "refreshes" Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: RC 2 Platform: 64bit OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: sonichedgehog_hyperblast00@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121300 SUSE/3.0.5-1.1 Firefox/3.0.5 OpenSuse 11.1 seems to have a problem with certain ATI video cards, mine being a Radeon HD 3870 X2. This problem happened both before and after I installed the latest official video drivers for my card. The first time was during the OpenSuse installation, when after the resolution was changed a few times for testing (auto-configuring video card settings) the screen remained black forever (monitor turned on / green led however) and I had to restart. Ever since I kept getting black screens while switching between user sessions for example (kind of a 15-20% chance when I use Switch Users that I get stuck to a blank screen and have to restart). Also a sax2 command which restarts the screen can cause it to get stuck there. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: This certainly depends on hardware... the problem is most likely one with my ATI card model and probably other models may have this as well. If you have a similar model of ATI card try switching users periodically, restarting the rendering system, changing resolution, entering runmodes "init 3" and "init 5" back and forth and anything of that type. Actual Results: There's a 20% chance that if you do the above you get stuck in a black screen forever if this issue happens for your ATI card. Expected Results: Normally that shouldn't happen and every time you do an operation which refreshes the screen / renderer system it should just return and display what it should. Using KDE 4.1.3, 64bit system. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
