http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=556865 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=556865#c0 Summary: Intel 865g/i915 needs ACPI: Corrupt and crashing graphics Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: M.D.Cahill@bath.ac.uk QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.15) Gecko/2009102100 SUSE/3.0.15-0.1 Firefox/3.0.15 This report is mostly to inform you of a (partial) resolution to the problem. It might be a bug in it's own right; you judge. Symptoms include: Sessons failing to start if resolution is large, but available. Corrupted bitmaps on screen. Sessions crashing if resolution increased. Consoles (CTRL-ALT-F1 etc) vanishing if any of the above happen /var/log/kdm.log shows: Xorg: intel_bufmgr_fake.c:1370: drm_intel_fake_bo_exec: Assertion `ret == 0' failed. Diagnosis: /var/log/kdm.log coontains:WARNING: Error inserting i2c_core (/lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-default/kernel/drivers/i2c/i2c-core.ko): No such device WARNING: Error inserting i2c_algo_bit (/lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-default/kernel/drivers/i2c/algos/i2c-algo-bit.ko): No such device WARNING: Error inserting drm (/lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-default/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/drm.ko): No such device FATAL: Error inserting i915 (/lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-default/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915.ko): No such device Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot without ACPI 2. Use xrandr to raise resolution to maximum (1280x1024) 3. Actual Results: Display banks, returns to login screen. CTRL-ALT-F? consoles hang. Corruption of display (rather than complete failure) seem to be more marked under KDE than Gnome. I assume that when i915 fails to load, the system falls over to a less-well-maintained driver. If I boot to failsafe mode, I get no graphical login screen. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
