https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=363650 Summary: Search and Load drivers from predefined location automatically. Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Alpha 2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sandeep_k_shandilya@dell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Third Party Developer/Partner This bugzilla is linked to [Fate 302851] Installer: Search and Load drivers from predefined location The OpenSuse installer currently supports including drivers from floppy disks and other media. We would like you to include a feature to the installer to automatically look in usb-storage devices and load driver-updates automatically. The drivers would be stored on USB flash storage device which would be permanently mounted inside the machine. This would help in automated installs where we can store the drivers before the installer is invoked. Business case (Partner benefit): Dell: New Dell hardware scheduled to be available late 2008 would have provision for permanent internal USB storage where we would place drivers and software that need to be installed on the machine after the OS is installed. This feature would aid the Dell CDU (Common Deployment Utility) to utilize the presence of the USB storage during installs. Current method is to carry a modified "initrd" that is placed on the hard disk along with the OS ISO images and initiate the install. I will be attaching a patch to this bugzilla shortly. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
