https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=740677 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=740677#c0 Summary: Main speakers work only or if the headphones are plugged into the front panel. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: darp@sympatico.ca QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=470604) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=470604) cli results User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1 I had no sound in my main speakers. They are plugged directly into my snd card. If I plug my headphones into the front panel of my box everything works - including the main speakers. The front jack is connected to a header on the card. All cli and Yast tests and devices work fine on both the headphones and speakers, as long as the headphones are plugged into the front jack. I then discovered that I could get the the speakers to work if I removed the cable to the snd card header. The card is a Xonar DS with a CMI8788 Oxygen HD audio chip and snd-virtuoso is the right driver as far as I know. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.After some configuring ( according to these instructions http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Alsa-update ) pavucontrol was indicating there was sound, although nothing was coming from the speakers. 2. I plugged in my headphones 3. Both the headphones and the speakers came alive. If I unplug the headphones main speakers stop working. Actual Results: I can not have the front panel headphone jack working if I want the main speakers to work. I can have the main speakers working and the front panel jack working if I keep the headphones plugged in all the time. Also, when I switched out the speakers to try another pair the system froze, or at least the keyboard did and the mouse cursor vanished. The same thing happened when i switched them back again and when I tried to plug the front panel header cable back into the board. Expected Results: It would be nice to have a fully functioning system where I don't have to have the headphones plugged in even if i am not using them just to get sound from the main speakers. This is a new install on a new HDD. The system would stall before the auto-reboot at the end of the install. ( I Notice a bug report about that. 723777 ) I had to manually configure xorg.conf after I configured the Nvidia graphics card, because the system would not retain the settings. after that I turned to configuring the sound. Yast would not configure the card and indicated a module had to be installed. I posted aquery in the Suse form and the Moderator suggested I post this bug report. It would be nice to get this fixed. It could save lots of people lots of head scratching time as they stumble around their system trying to figure out why they don't have sound. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
