I had something similar on Debian 9 Stable, with Plasma and SDDM. Not sure if it was suspend to RAM or hibernation (by the way, the bug report also has no information on this, and settings for closing lid can be different). It happened from time to time. Now I have Leap 15.1 on the same laptop with only suspend to RAM configured.
