https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=767360 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=767360#c0 Summary: Screen goes black at random intervals with radeon driver Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Beta 1 Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: wjones@fluke.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0 My screen goes black for 1-2 seconds at random intervals, typically more than a dozen times per hour. In a dual monitor configuration, sometimes the left monitor will go black, sometimes the right, and occasionally both. The problem was introduced somewhere between milestone 3 and beta 1. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install openSUSE beta 1 on host with Radeon HD 2400 XT 2. Configure radeon driver 3. Begin X session, any desktop Actual Results: Screen goes black at random intervals, as described above. Expected Results: No black screens. eg> lspci | grep -i vga 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RV610 [Radeon HD 2400 XT] eg> cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-device.conf Section "Device" Identifier "Default Device" VendorName "ATI" BoardName "Radeon HD 2400 XT" Driver "radeon" Option "monitor-DVI-0" "Monitor[1]" Option "monitor-DVI-1" "Monitor[0]" EndSection No clues in /var/log/Xorg.0.log, /var/log/messages or output from dmesg. I've observed the problem with KDE, Gnome, XFCE, LXDE, etc. I installed kernel-3.3.0-2-default from milestone 3 to rule out KMS related problems, but the black screens continued. I would try rebuilding the radeon driver from milestone 3 under beta 1, but I cannot locate xorg-x11-driver-video-7.6-91.1.src.rpm.
