It's also used for /dev and /dev/shm (and other things). I don't think it's actually a kernel issue, though. This part of the tmpfs code hasn't changed in any update. It could be that a package was updated that is trying to mount a tmpfs filesystem. Can you provide /var/log/boot.msg as well?
