Thank you very much for reporting this issue.
If I understand this right, you have this issue on XFCE, where the same issue
is observed when using exo-open, right?
now, then this is no big surprise:
xdg-open is a wrapper around the various DE-specific 'open' calls.
in XFCE for example, the call is simply forwarded to exo-open.
from xdg-open:
open_xfce()
{
exo-open "$1"
if [ $? -eq 0 ]; then
exit_success
else
exit_failure_operation_failed
fi
}
I tried to reproduce this on GNOME 3.4, with FF 14 and 16, and no problems are
seen. but then, of course, in gnome it uses gvfs-open instead of exo-open.
As such, I'll consider this bug-report as invalid (marking it as dup of bug
774564 sounds counter intuitive).
