What are the difference? As user i want use the UMTS network but have to choose gsm to enter the apn. I have alway to enter a number and user for ppp. For CDC Ethernet interfaces i did not need it. My Provider gives mee onle a APN. The best thing for the user is a databese with the setings. nm-applet automaticly configure already the right connection but did not now the apn.
