https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=822728 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=822728#c0 Summary: polkit sometimes does not permit operations Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: norbert.jurkeit@web.de QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:21.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/21.0 This is probably a duplicate because there are several similar bug reports, some of them already closed, I'm not sure. After boot and login to KDE or XFCE, sometimes operations which are normally permitted by polkit do not work. As results, sound output does not work, only a "dummy output" is available in the mixer, the NetworkManager icon does not show up, USB sticks are not mounted automatically etc. If this fault occurs, it helps to log out or kill the X server by ctrl-alt-backspace and log in again. When looking at process lists and systemctl output, a working and an impaired system look nearly identical. However, I found 2 differences when the fault is apparent: 1. ps -ef states that the process running Xorg is not assigned any tty 2. In the output of loginctl, the column for SEAT is empty The fault first occurred seldom, but has become more frequent and now shows up in about 50% of system starts. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Only my laptop is affected, not my 2 desktop computers. It is started by grub2-efi, the kernel command line has no parameters except root=xxx, and the display manager is KDM. Another strange phenomenon is that Xorg sometimes runs on tty8 instead tty7, but this seems to cause no problems. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
