http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=559872 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=559872#c4 --- Comment #4 from Roger Oberholtzer <roger@opq.se> 2010-03-18 12:02:23 UTC --- I have now had a chance to duplicate (and correct) this problem. I did an update of a 10.3 system using the 11.2 install DVD. I let it do the usual updates to that install to get any bug fixes since the 11.2 release. And I got the original problem again. Luckily I was in the same room as this machine, and not across the county. The problem is that the 11.2 install does not update the DISPLAYMANAGER variable in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager from kde to kde4. So, it is running /opt/kde3/bin/kdm, and not the expected /usr/bin/kdm. Changing the DISPLAYMANAGER variable to kdm4 solved the issue. At least it did on a machine as described in the paragraph above. I will have to see if the machine that prompted the original report also can be corrected with this edit. The reason I am uncertain is that I see that when I did the 10.3->11.2 upgrade, the upgrade process complained that it could not install samba-winbind. I ignored this, and let the install complete. This results in the old 10.3 samba-sinbind binaries being left on the system - and they are not compatible with the 11.2 install. But I see that the update the install does got a newer version of samba-winbind and installed that. So, perhaps the real solution to this bug is (1) edit the DISPLAYMANAGER variable and (2) update samba-winbind. OOC, why are there things left in /opt/kde3/bin after the 11.2 update? Especially things like kdm. And there are others. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
