https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=239770 ------- Comment #12 from me@shadsterling.com 2007-02-21 10:34 MST ------- We may be going off topic with some of this. I did not create a partition table manually. Before posting here I tried to write a blank partition table with cfdisk (booted to rescue), but that didn't resolve the problem. I did get a prompt from parted, each time. This machine has been out of use for a bit, it's previous state is unclear. It passes every hardware test I know to run (memtest, badblocks, "The Troubleshooter" suite). Are there tests which are particularly good at detecting the sort of problem you suspect? The problems I've had after getting past the disk label error haven't been entirely consistent, but are generally failures to find files on the DVD and lockups while installing. I thought there might be disc-related problem, so this morning I tried installing from the CDs. Now the GUI has locked up at package ifplugd-0.28-41.i586.rpm, and on vconsole 4 I find this: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000055 EIP: 0060:[<c01727bb>] Tainted: G U VLI EFLAGS: 00210282 (2.6.18.2-34-default #1) EIP is at do_path_lookup+0x167/0x25f eax: f30cfed4 ebx: f0df2000 ecx: 00000000 sdx: df234f20 ds: 007b es: 007b ss: 0068 Process: y2base (pid: 3015, ti=f30ce000 task=f5537180 task.ti: f30ce000) Call Trace: getname+0x59/0xb0 __user_walk_fd+0x2f/0x40 vfs_stat_fd+0x19/0x40 sys_stat64+0xf/0x23 do_page_fault+0x27d/0x507 vfs_read+0x11e/0x15d copy_to_user+0x31/0x48 sys_newuname+0x2d/0x36 syscall_call+0x7/0xb EIP: [<c01727bb>] do_path_lookup+0x167/0x25f SS:ESP 0068:f30cfed4 and that's now scrolled off the screen by repititions of "VFS: busy inodes on changed media". I have not changed the CD, and the GUI has not asked. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
