https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=815700 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=815700#c0 Summary: install_bcm43xx_firmware script uses old URL; Missing firmware required for kernels > 3.1 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: jeffm@suse.com ReportedBy: jeffm@suse.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de CC: vbotka@suse.com, maintenance@opensuse.org Found By: Development Blocker: --- While installing openSUSE 12.3 on my MacBook Pro Retina, I came across a problem. It required the firmware files for my Broadcom 4331 wifi. I installed the b43-fwcutter package and ran it, and it didn't contain the needed files (ucode29_mimo.fw in my case). b43-fwcutter is out of date. We're shipping 012 and the latest version is 017. I couldn't tell you what the differences are and if it even matters. What does matter is that the firmware archive we're downloading is old and missing files required for wifi hardware supported by kernels starting with v3.1. Unfortunately, when I downloaded both archives and compared the common files, there are differences. So, the question for maintenance: Do we want to update the URL generally or do we want to find a way to /only/ update the firmware blobs from the new archive. I've already updated the hardware:b43-fwcutter package to the current version and to use the new URL in the script. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
