Nonetheless many users will still continue to use dup -r not knowing about dup --from so that an error message would be appropriate as soon as core packages got purged (libraries should not matter). If a user should really decide to purge major parts of his systems in favour of an dispensable update he should need to use the --force option; right?
No. The core packages won't get removed without user's explicit consent - if any of packages listed in /etc/zypp/systemCheck is about to be removed, you'll get a solver problem.
