No, that does not work, helas, not tested well i guess: 'unrecognised devicestring', appears with any input you make...
That should not happen. The kernel should boot in any case. If the device is not found, it may not continue, but it would boot until we reach the point it tries to mount. Did you press ESC, and entered the grub menu on startup? It's the black/white screen, not the green SUSE screen.
And then there is offcourse the rediculous drivename: root=/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_HDS722516VLAT80_VN643ECDEW7U8F-part11
You can just use the kernel names /dev/sdb11 or /dev/hdb11, or whatever the devices are.
