You should have a look at "Help" -> "About Eclipse SDK" -> "Configuration Details" and then post the lines beginning with "java.". As far as I understand you # /usr/share/eclipse/eclipse.bin -startup /usr/share/eclipse/./plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.0.v20070606.jar works whereas # /usr/share/eclipse/eclipse.bin -startup /usr/share/eclipse/./plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.0.v20070606.jar -vm /usr/lib/jvm/java/bin/java does not.
