So the update is definitely not broken. I do get the same warnings as you mention, but they are harmless. They are likely caused by missing features of the vlc backend (no support for AudioDataOutput and angles) and totally unrelated to the update, see https://community.kde.org/Phonon/FeatureMatrix .
