https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=489542 Summary: Assigning a Static IP Address Via the Current Network Manager Icon is Diabolical Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: alpha096@virginbroadband.com.au QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009022800 SUSE/3.0.7-1.1.6 Firefox/3.0.7 In V11.1 we made the correct decision for Yast not to control the ever growing Network Manager and we removed the assignment of a Static IP using Network Manager to the current KDE3 Network Manager Icon. The configuration of a static IP using this kde3 Icon is a disaster. I have attached 3 screen shots showing a wrongly configured connection and a rightly configured connection. The problem is the pre-defined field spaces. The only way you can assign a static IP is to place the IP field numbers that are less than 3 characters using a space prefix before the last two digit number or 2 x space prefixes before the last single digit number. The only clue that you have entered the correct IP is the automatic creation of the correct netmask. This same madness applies to entering a gateway address. Example IP 192.168.100. 10 Gateway 192.168. 1. 1 Once correctly places number have been saved a subsequent edit of the connection will show the preceding spaces as now absent. Not even the Keyboard TAB button is of any value. In every field that is less then 3 characters you must use a preceding space(s) when entering the IP and Gateway Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Switch Yast>Network Devices> to Network Manager and finish. 2.Re-boot 3.Open the KDE3 Network Manager Icon and create a static IP Address using NO preceding spaces before any single or two digit numeric numbers. 4. Reboot 5. Netstat will show you have not been successful 6. Edit the Network Configuration that was entered in the KDE3 Network Manager Icon. Now make sure that any two digit value has a preceding space in any field. Now make sure that any single digit value has 2 x spaces before entering and save. 7.Reboot - Not really necessary 8. check that you are now successful if you entered address Actual Results: Words fail me123.200.191.18 Expected Results: It works! - with a TAB or a manually enter . to move fields and accepts any value with or without spaces. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
