I would need some details of the NFS/NIS configuration.
Do you have any nfs filesystems listed in /etc/fstab? yes, the /srv/home as my home directories + one data directory If so do they have the 'bg' option set? no
If you want to be able to boot when the NFS servers are not visible, you really need you use autofs to mount all NFS filesystem so they are only mounted on demand. I will give this a try. Why isn't it set by default when I configure nfs/nis client?
That does /etc/nsswitch.conf show for passwd: and group: If you probably need passwd: files nis
