It does not happen when mhl is invoked by show to format viewed messages. This seems to be independent of the mail being replied to and also independent of the reply filter being used. In the strace output attached, the -format argument to repl causes mhl to use the stock supplied mhl.reply filter. This problem does not happen with mhl from nhm 1.2 which I compiled from the upstream distribution. 1.2 has been out since December 2005. I see there is no way of attaching a file to this bug report.
