The culprit might be not in the sound driver but in a deeper level. Try to feed some sounds to line-in jack, and turn on "Line Playback Switch" and raise "Line Playback Switch". This is an analog-loopback. If this sound is also distorted, then the HD-audio codec itself is the problem. If this sounds OK, the problem is PCM playback. You can try also specifying position_fix option, position_fix=1.
